In 2024, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) implemented development programmes across 133 countries, benefiting nearly 37,000 people and contributing to a record number of athletes and National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) participating in the Paris Paralympic Games.
Focusing on athlete development, leadership training, and broader participation, the IPC supported 7,430 Para athletes with competition opportunities and mentoring, trained 5,400 Para sport leaders, and introduced 20,000 individuals to Para sport, many for the first time.
The IPC emphasized that Para sport is a key driver of a more inclusive society. A record 168 NPCs and the Refugee Paralympic Team competed in Paris, with 91 of them receiving IPC support — including first-time participants Eritrea, Kiribati, and Kosovo. Of the 155 supported athletes, 13 won medals. Mauritius and Nepal also claimed their first-ever Paralympic medals.
Looking ahead, the IPC will launch its “Sport for Mobility” initiative in 2025 to expand support for over 200 member organizations in the lead-up to the LA28 Paralympic Games.
